Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a troublesome symptom which may be associated with different ear and hearing disorders. St Vincent Hospital’s tinnitus clinic was established in the mid 80’s through a combined effort of Dr John Tonkin, ENT specialist and Ms Sarah Platt-Hepworth, audiologist. The clinic has evolved to be one of the most comprehensive tinnitus clinics in Australia working closely with the Australian Tinnitus Association NSW.

ENT specialists, audiologists and psychologists are part of the multidisciplinary team that diagnoses, treats and manages tinnitus patients from different aetiologies.

After thorough diagnostic investigation and when all possibilities of medical treatment have been exhausted, the patients may be referred to St Vincent’s Hearing and Balance Center for tinnitus management.

Different tinnitus management approaches are used to suit individual needs including fitting of Hearing Aids whenever there is a hearing loss, White Noise Generators when hearing is within the normal range, Noise Therapy, Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Stress Management and Relaxation Techniques.
